Removing & Restoring Rewards

When one of your rules applies a reward, the shopper can now take it off their own cart and put it back again — without contacting you or emptying the cart. A Remove link sits on each Dino reward line in the cart and at checkout; once removed, the line reads "<name> - removed" with a Restore link to bring it back.

This works across all four reward families:

  • Discounts — automatic % off, fixed $ off, tiered spend-and-save, and the rest.
  • Coupons — a discount coupon your rule applies automatically. (A coupon a shopper typed or clicked can also be removed; to bring that one back they simply re-enter the code — see Restore vs re-entering a typed code below.)
  • Free shipping — the shipping-waiver unlock.
  • Free gift — restoring the reward puts the gift product back in the cart too.

On every Dino reward line in the cart and at checkout, a Remove link sits next to the reward. For a reward your rule applies automatically (and for the free gift), clicking it works like this:

  1. The reward comes off the cart and totals recalculate immediately.
  2. The line changes to read "<name> - removed" — the reward's cart label first, then "- removed".
  3. A Restore link appears on that same removed line. Clicking it re-applies the reward (and, for a free gift, adds the gift back).

(A coupon the shopper typed or clicked also has a Remove link, but it's re-applied by re-entering the code rather than a Restore link — see Restore vs re-entering a typed code below.)

Restore is the single verb across these rewards — a removed automatic discount, auto-applied coupon, free-shipping unlock, and free gift all restore the same way, so there's nothing reward-specific for the shopper to learn.

The Restore link appears for rewards your rules apply automatically — automatic discounts, auto-applied coupons, free-shipping unlocks, and the free gift. A coupon the shopper typed or clicked to unlock can still be removed with its Remove link, but there's no "<name> - removed" row for it — the natural way to bring a typed code back is to re-enter it, so that's what the shopper does.

The free gift stays removed across a reload

Section titled “The free gift stays removed across a reload”

If a shopper removes a free gift, it stays removed when the page reloads — it does not silently reappear on the next cart view. The shopper's choice sticks until they click Restore. (Removed discounts and coupons behave the same way for the current cart.)

The Remove/Restore controls render on both storefront surfaces:

  • The classic (shortcode) cart and checkout.
  • The Cart and Checkout blocks (WooCommerce block checkout / Store API).

Both surfaces show the same Remove link, the same "<name> - removed" row, and the same Restore link, so the experience is consistent however your store renders its cart.

Deciding whether shoppers can remove a reward

Section titled “Deciding whether shoppers can remove a reward”

The Remove control is opt-out per discount, not global. Each rule carries an Allow shoppers to remove this discount setting in the rule editor's Controls section:

  • On (default) — the reward's cart/checkout line shows the Remove link, and the shopper can remove and restore it.
  • Off — the reward always applies with no Remove link. Use this for a reward you never want a shopper to opt out of.

The setting lives in the Controls section at the top of the rule editor, which now starts collapsed and expands on demand to keep the editor tidy — see Build Your Own Discount for where the Controls section sits.

  • Fewer support tickets. A shopper who doesn't want the free gift, or wants to compare the cart without a coupon, can do it themselves instead of emailing you.
  • Reversible by design. Every removal is one click from being restored, so a shopper can't strand themselves — the reward is always one Restore away.
  • Your call, rule by rule. Leave it on for the promotions you're happy for shoppers to toggle; turn it off for the ones that must always apply.
  • Build Your Own Discount — where the Controls section and the Allow shoppers to remove this discount setting live in the rule editor.
  • Cart Labels — the label that names the reward on its cart line (and in the "<name> - removed" row).
  • Draft & Publish — how a setting change goes live.
