Discounts & Subscriptions

If you sell subscription products with WooCommerce Subscriptions, it’s important to know exactly when a Dino Discount applies.

Dino Discounts apply to the initial order only. When a shopper signs up for a subscription, any matching discount is applied to that first payment (including a sign-up fee, if your discount is configured against the order total).

Automatic renewals are charged at full price. Dino Discounts are not re-applied to the recurring renewal payments that WooCommerce Subscriptions generates later. Each renewal is billed at the regular subscription price.

This matches standard WooCommerce coupon behaviour: a one-time cart discount is not a “recurring” coupon, so it does not carry over to future billing cycles.

WooCommerce Subscriptions builds a separate recurring cart to show the “then £X/month” price at signup. Dino Discounts deliberately does not discount that recurring cart, because the discount could never actually be applied to the real renewal charge — and showing a discounted renewal price the shopper will not receive would be misleading. So the discount is shown and applied on the initial order, and the recurring/renewal amount is left at full price throughout.

A “free gift” reward is added to the initial order only, for the same reason: the gift is not re-added to automatic renewal orders. Treat a free-gift-with- subscription offer as a one-time welcome gift on the first order, not a recurring perk.

  • ✅ Discount applies to the initial subscription order.
  • ❌ Discount does not apply to automatic renewals (charged at full price).
  • ✅ Stores without WooCommerce Subscriptions are unaffected.

If you want a discount that recurs on every renewal, that is a separate WooCommerce Subscriptions “recurring coupon” feature and is not currently provided by Dino Discounts.
