Message Settings
The Message Settings tab (between Settings and Countries & Zones) holds the store-wide side of every shopper-facing message: where it shows, on which surfaces, and the wording of the messages that don’t belong to a single discount. Set it once and it applies to all discounts.
The words of a discount’s own messages — its cart label, checkout notice, nudge, product-page message and doesn’t-qualify message — live on each discount, in the Messaging section of the rule editor. A blank field always means “use the default”.
Changes on this tab join the same draft as your discounts and settings, so they go live when you Publish changes — see Draft & Publish.
The tab is one card per message type. Each card has a Where it shows illustration that highlights the selected placement.
Applied notice
Section titled “Applied notice”The confirmation banner shown when a discount becomes active. It renders in the notice area of each surface. The text comes from each discount’s checkout notice; blank falls back to “<label> applied”.
| Control | Options |
|---|---|
| Show for | Coupon-activated discounts · All discounts (default) · Automatic discounts only · None |
| Lifetime | Until dismissed — remembered for the session (default) · Once per session |
Discount label
Section titled “Discount label”The named discount line in the cart and checkout totals, and as a line in the mini-cart drawer. The label text is set per discount — see Cart Labels.
Show the discount line on — Cart page, Mini-cart and Checkout, all on by default. Where you hide the label, shoppers still get the discount but see no line explaining the lower total.
Spend-more nudge
Section titled “Spend-more nudge”The upsell shown while the cart is below a discount’s next tier. The message is set per discount — see Upsell Messages.
| Control | Options |
|---|---|
| Enable spend-more nudges | Master switch, on by default |
| Mini-cart drawer slot | Not shown · Top · Before buttons · Below total (default) |
| Cart page slot | Not shown · Top · Before checkout button · Below total (default) |
| Checkout slot | Not shown · Top · Above order review · Above payment · Above place-order (default) |
Each discount opts in with Include in spend-more nudges in its Messaging section. Only discounts with a threshold to reach can nudge: a tier, a Cart subtotal at least spend, or a BOGOF or Bundle deal with a single set (see Upsell Messages). Only one nudge renders per page.
Product-page promo
Section titled “Product-page promo”The badge, tier table or banner on product pages. Whether a discount advertises, and its words or display mode, stay per discount — see Product Page Pricing.
Position — one position for every product-page promo:
| Option | Notes |
|---|---|
| Above Add to Cart (default) | Also works with most page builders |
| Below price | Needs a standard WooCommerce product template |
Removal & restore
Section titled “Removal & restore”The “<label> - removed” row with a Restore link, shown when a shopper removes a reward. It renders in the totals area of the cart page and checkout — never the mini-cart drawer.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Removed-reward wording | The text beside the Restore link. Click the [label] chip to insert the discount’s name. Blank uses the built-in wording, [label] - removed. The Restore link itself always reads “Restore” |
| Show the row on | Cart page and Checkout, both on by default. Mini-cart (not available) |
Whether a discount can be removed at all is per discount: Allow shoppers to remove this discount in its Controls section. See Removing & Restoring Rewards.
Coupon rejection
Section titled “Coupon rejection”What a shopper sees when a typed code can’t be applied. Every rejection renders in the notice area, wherever the code was typed, and rejection reasons are always shown.
| Message | When it shows | Built-in wording |
|---|---|---|
| Default message when a coupon doesn’t apply yet | A recognised code whose discounts don’t currently qualify. Each discount can override it with its own doesn’t-qualify message | ”This code doesn’t apply to your current cart” |
| Can’t be applied (generic) | Every dead end — not recognised, expired, single-use already used, per-customer limit reached, caps or pool spent. One wording for all of them, so the message never reveals whether a code exists | ”Sorry, this code can’t be applied.” |
| Already applied | The shopper re-types a code that is already working | ”This code is already applied to your cart.” |
| Can’t combine | A valid, qualifying code refused because another discount takes precedence or they don’t stack | ”This code can’t be combined with the discount already applied.” |
These messages accept a [code] token, which is replaced with the code the shopper typed.
Discount links
Section titled “Discount links”Marketing links that apply a coupon with ?dino_apply=… — see URL Auto-Apply Links.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enable discount links | On by default. When off, links do nothing |
| Invalid-link message | Shown as a top-of-page notice wherever a link that doesn’t resolve lands. Built-in wording: “This discount link isn’t valid.” |
A successful link reuses the applied notice; a link used outside its discount’s schedule reuses the rejection wording.
Order declines & discount cap
Section titled “Order declines & discount cap”| Message | When it shows |
|---|---|
| Express-pay decline (Apple Pay / Google Pay) | A page notice at checkout after the wallet sheet closes, when an express order is declined because a discount it relied on no longer applies — for example its per-customer limit was reached. Click the [name] chip to insert the discount name. Keep it short and tell the shopper their order was not placed. If a discount has its doesn’t-qualify message switched off, that discount uses the built-in wording instead |
| Cap message | Shown in the cart and checkout notice area only when a cart’s total discount would exceed your maximum discount cap and is trimmed to it. Blank means no message |
